In recent years, green tea has gradually become synonymous with health. Regular consumption can combat aging and boost immunity, making it highly sought after by the public. A recent study from Japan has revealed that drinking green tea not only provides these benefits but also has remarkable effects on "brain supplementation"! Among the various types of green tea, matcha is noted as one of the healthiest options.

Matcha is a type of green tea, and there are many differences in cultivation and processing between the two. When producing matcha, farmers cover the tea plants for about three weeks to block direct sunlight, which encourages the production of more chlorophyll. This limited light promotes the generation of chlorophyll and the amino acid L-theanine, giving matcha a brighter green color and virtually no bitterness. Additionally, matcha is dried without being rolled, preserving the integrity of the tea leaves. As a result, matcha powder is made from whole tea leaves, making its nutritional intake more complete than other types of tea.

A study published in the journal Scientific Reports indicates that even small daily amounts of green tea can significantly enhance executive function and mental health. The study recruited 20 healthy Japanese males aged 18 to 30. Researchers asked participants to consume specified beverages—hot water, green tea, and roasted green tea—before conducting three sets of five rounds of tests.

In these tests, researchers measured 11 different physiological responses to assess the impact of the different beverages on performance. They also conducted questionnaires on participants’ fatigue, stress, mental load, and workflow to supplement their physiological data.

Remember the three major benefits of green tea:

1. Boosts Metabolism: Matcha (dehydrated green tea powder) contains catechins, which are antioxidants that can enhance metabolism and have thermogenic properties, aiding in weight loss. Research indicates that matcha can help burn 25% or more fat. Additionally, catechins can help lower blood pressure and cholesterol.

2. May Slow Aging: Some free radicals present in matcha may have anti-cancer properties and can help slow down the aging process.

3. Gives Skin a Radiant Glow: The antioxidants in matcha are several times more than those in regular green tea, helping to prevent skin damage from UV radiation and remove harmful free radicals from the body. Moreover, it promotes blood circulation, giving the cheeks a bright and rosy appearance.
